Lindsay Campbell is a Canadian artist who specializes in animal illustration. At first glance, her body of work might conjure up memories of a bedtime storybook. The hues are soft and sherbet-like, the ears and paws are round, and each eye is imbued with a profound gentleness. Embedded in this lullaby of colour, however, is a nod to the kind of pain that seems inevitable when one’s heart is so determinedly open. Existential dread, loneliness, heartbreak: in the depths of tenderness, all of these bite fiercely. She tries to treat each emotion, difficult or negative as it may be, with honesty, kindness, and respect - and believes that no matter how soft we are, our suffering selves deserve light. Lindsay's work has been featured in galleries around Canada and the US, as well as internationally, She currently lives in Ontario's highlands with her dog, Casper. |
